At our northern New Jersey location, with such close proximity to New York Fashion Week and the epicenter of fashion trends, as well as to shopping meccas like the Short Hills Mall, our brides have their fingers on the pulse of the latest trends in bridal fashion. And one of those trends is for the bride to wear sensational shoes on her wedding day. Designer shoes are in demand, with Jimmy Choo and Christian Laboutin shoes leading the trend.

The bride’s wedding shoes are of such great importance that some brides are choosing their wedding dress style for its ability to show off their shoes. For instance, the big trend of short wedding dresses shows off the bride’s shoes, and there are even wedding dresses that are knee-length in front, draping gracefully to full length in the back to frame the bride’s choice of dazzling shoes.

Gorgeous wedding shoes are such a valued part of the bride’s wedding day look that professional wedding photographers are taking the same kinds of close-up spotlight photos of the shoes that they do of the wedding rings.

Here are the top trends in wedding shoes for 2014:

  • All-over sparkle. Brides of yesteryear wore simple satin shoes, often demure low heels, and now a bride’s shoes sparkle will all-over or artistically-placed rhinestones or crystals.
  • Sparkle just on the heel. For the bride who prefer a touch less sparkle, but still a fashion-forward amount of glitz, a new trend in wedding shoe designs is having sparkly rhinestone or crystals adorning just the heels of her stilettos.
  • Sparkly bows. Bows are a top trend in wedding gowns, and the bow effect extends to the shoes, with bows crafted to feature sparkling rhinestones or crystals as the accent on a white or colored shoe. Bows may be located on the toes or on the heel top.
  • Shoes in color. Brides are showing a pop of color with their shoes, in pretty contrast to their dresses, with the top colors in wedding shoes being deep jewel tones of blue, purple, bright pink and the PANTONE® Color of the Year Radiant Orchid. On a more neutral note, bridal shoes in deep champagne tones, with plenty of sparkle, are also top choices for today’s brides. A softer shade of bridal shoe is the famous Tiffany blue color.
  • If brides wish to remove their high heels for comfort during the reception, they’re slipping into stylish flats that also may be in color, or in fun patterns such as zebra, leopard or dots.
